If you haven't met any outright criminals, maybe just an encounter with a nutjob. I have several nutjob stories from meetings through this site. Fortunately, they showed those aspects of their personalities early-on so my interactions with them didn't proceed beyond a conversation over coffee. I can't call her an outright criminal - maybe she was, or maybe she just associated with crooks ? But I met an English (from the UK) woman here in Singapore who spent most of our conversation ranting about the unfair treatment she had experienced at the hands of her previous employer. That was a landbanking investment scheme that basically cheated naive investors out of their funds to - in theory - invest in parcels of land in various other countries that would supposedly be developed into shopping malls or high-end condo's or what have you. She didn't describe the scheme as a scam - only her role as a salesperson in what . . . for all I knew, was a legit asset class. Within weeks, the story broke of arrests of several principals in that very same company - the one that had stiffed her - as well as dozens of outraged investors who were realizing that their funds had gone to money-heaven. That woman was so nasty and negative in her ranting that I excused myself after coffee. She wrote to me again to invite further contact. But I have learned to go with my first instincts. If in doubt . . . cross her out . . . works for me. My working theory is the old adage that birds of a feather, flock together. If she was working with crooks, she probably was one herself. Though the actual red-flag for me was her negativity and nastiness. I only learned about the scam when the story broke in the papers later on.

It seems lie many have a criminal record these days, mostly drug offences, and my opinion on those varies with what the crime was.But many states now criminalize traffic offenses ( not including DWi which I believe shoudnt even be a traffic offense but should be a criminal offense always), or not of paying child support, not purchasing certain business licenses, and not paying assesed fines on a timely basis. Now again, I dont argue some of these should be criminal, but most once upon a time were civil, and if the were, should remain so for the most part. When you can get a felony and a child/predator listing if you are a man, for peeing in a public place, even if no facilities are within miles and no one but the officer saw you, an adult presumably, AND if a woman, you are not charged with anything more than disturbing the piece, the system is not correct. You just cannot judge just because something online says someone is a criminal, just because they have been deemed a criminal for doing something many others do and just havnt been caught. But I am not saying there are not criminals out there on line, including predators that perhaps should be behind bars for a long time, as there certainly ARE those types online. What I AM saying is you always need be on your guard. I dated a woman who shot looters during Catrina, Rita & Gus who were NOT breaing into HER house, but a neighbors house. She got away with a fine for discharging a firearm in the city limits! She didnt commit homicide, but if she had intended to, they would have been dead, she just maimed them enuf so they would not get away until cops arrived! She told me this to prove she was a strong woman, I dunno, but when we split, I was not to upset. What you truely need to be afraid of is not info you find on the net, but what you DO NOT FIND ! It is easier to prevent info from being on the net sometimes if you have the right programs, than to legally put it there to start with. Criminals are usually several steps ahead of common tech and are very good at deleting unwanted info from the net. So BEWARE, THE NET IS NOT THE FINAL ANSWER !

There aren't too many Ma Barker's or Winnie Ruth Judds around any more theses days. You just never know these days. It's pretty handy to have the tools nowadays to be able to do background searches. I think If I were going to do them I would go to a public library and use their computers.Just for a little added safety. I mean If I was a girl but I'm a guy,so. Using more than all the road!

I guess I've been lucky. The worst I've met was a woman who said NO DRAMA on her profile while all she did was create drama, that's not a crime, but it should be.

Short version is, on the 2nd date I went to her place (her car was not running) and after playing around some she asked if I could giver her a ride the next day. "Sure where" I asked, she said to her . . . parole officer. Not for a major crime she was in the wrong place at the wrong time kind of thing. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
